Thank you for always playing PicTrée.
As part of the “Aomori, Akita, and Yamagata Season” that began on May 17, we will be making the capture of the nameplate mandatory, which is currently optional (with the ability to select “Does Not Exist”).
■ Background of This Update
The nameplate contains important information about each Telephone Pole and is one of the most critical angles when photographing Concrete Telephone Pole.
Until now, to accommodate cases where the nameplate could not be found or was obscured, the angle for the nameplate allowed users to select “Does Not Exist.”
However, we have confirmed instances where some users chose “Does Not Exist” even though the nameplate was present. As a result, we are implementing this update.
■ If No Nameplate Is Present
If a Telephone Pole truly has no nameplate, please take a “wide-angle photo clearly showing that there is no nameplate.”
While two overview shots from different directions (Full View 1 & 2) are required, make sure the angle for showing the absence of the nameplate is distinct from those.
The fact that a nameplate is missing is also valuable information, so we appreciate your cooperation in documenting it accurately.
■ Review Criteria for Nameplate Photos
We have received questions regarding the review standards for nameplate submissions, so we will explain the criteria along with actual photo examples.
【Cases Where the Review Will Be Approved】
◎ Clearly zoomed in (close-up photo), and the text/numbers on the nameplate are clearly legible.
○ Not zoomed in (taken from a distance), but the text/numbers are still clearly legible when the photo is enlarged.
△ Although it’s difficult to take an ideal photo, the user made a genuine effort.
(Examples: The nameplate is too high to fully capture, located on private property, or in a difficult-to-reach place.)
— Preferred examples
【Cases Where the Review Will Be Unacceptabled】
× The photo is blurry or out of focus.
× Even when zoomed in, the text on the nameplate cannot be read.
— Unacceptable examples
Tips for Photographing Nameplates
・When photographing a nameplate, get as close as possible to the pole and zoom in so that the nameplate fills the frame.
・Make sure the text and numbers on the nameplate are clearly visible, and avoid blurry shots.
Refer to the “Preferred Examples” and aim to take photos where the nameplate appears large and clear!
Thank you for your continued participation in the PicTrée [Aomori, Akita, and Yamagata Season]!
